Saving Kosci depends on what Labor does next.

Tell Labor to make sure the Save Kosci bill is debated in Govt time

Saving Kosci depends on what Labor does next.

Remember when former National Party Leader John Barilaro forced through an extraordinary law back in 2018 to protect feral horses inside Kosciuszko National Park?

Since then, horse numbers have exploded, trampling fragile wetlands, eroding waterways and pushing our precious wildlife closer to extinction including the broad-toothed mouse, mountain pygmy possum and northern corroboree frog.

Horses have no place in one of our most fragile alpine environments.

Conservationists, First Nations custodians and hundreds of scientists have pleaded for years for this law to be overturned. And finally, this week, we have an historic opportunity to repeal it, but only if Labor allows time to debate and vote on the bill in the NSW Upper House.

Environment Minister Penny Sharpe has assured us that she is committed to passing the bill that will get rid of Barilaro’s dodgy bill once and for all. Well this is the week it needs to be done.

As Leader of the Government in the Upper House, Minister Sharpe controls the government business agenda, including making sure the Bill to Save Kosci is given the time it needs to pass before the end of this year.
