MEET CATE
I’m one of your Greens voices in the NSW Parliament. I’m passionate about protecting our wild places and repairing climate damage. I care about reforming out of touch drug laws, fighting for better health and mental health services and creating liveable communities with integrated active transport connections, thriving arts scenes and vibrant nightlife.
I'm Cate Faehrmann, and I took my seat in the NSW Legislative Council in August 2018.
I came to this place with a long history as a human rights activist. I started my journey on the frontlines of the campaign for a woman’s right to bodily autonomy and in the fight for LGBTQIA+ equality.
Throughout my career and my life I’ve championed the conservation of nature and environmental sustainability. I was Chair of Sea Shepherd Australia, a founding Director of GetUp!, previous Executive Director of the Nature Conservation Council of NSW and a former Board Member of the Environmental Defenders Office.
Most recently I worked as Chief of Staff to former Australian Greens Parliamentary Leader, Senator Richard Di Natale.
‘I came to the Greens due to shared values of environmentalism, social and economic justice and the desire to work for a future that puts people and the planet ahead of the vested interests of the big business buddies and dodgy developer donors of the old parties.’
In my spare time you’ll likely find me exploring our uniquely beautiful wilderness or enjoying some of the many music festivals our state has to offer.
We need strong voices to fight back against regressive, far-right that’s poisoning politics and whose presence in our parliaments threatens to send us backwards. I hope you'll join me on this journey to fight for our values and for a future for us all. Thank you.
