Our plan to clean up PFAS
We’re calling on the state and federal governments to:
-
Provide Free Blood Tests and Health Services
- Establish a NSW PFAS Public Health Monitoring Taskforce to deliver free blood testing and follow up health support for impacted communities, including the Blue Mountains, Wreck Bay and Williamtown
- Establish a NSW PFAS Public Health Monitoring Taskforce to deliver free blood testing and follow up health support for impacted communities, including the Blue Mountains, Wreck Bay and Williamtown
-
Rapidly phase out all PFAS Chemicals and Ensure Transparency and Consumer Protection
- Extend the federal ban coming into force on 1 July 2025 on imports of 3 PFAS chemicals - PFOA, PFOS and PFHxS - to other PFAS chemicals found in common products like packaging, cookware, furnishings, toiletries and cosmetics and pesticides and herbicides
- Mandate PFAS labelling on all products until the ban is fully implemented
-
Strengthen Environmental Protections
- Regularly undertake and publicly report testing of drinking water, waterways, soil, wildlife, and agricultural products for at least the 40 most commonly used PFAS chemicals
- Amend the new draft Australian Drinking Water Guidelines for PFAS to align with the WHO’s International Agency for the Research on Cancer’s recent declaration of PFOA as carcinogenic and PFOS as possibly carcinogenic, including reducing the recommended levels for PFOA from 200 ng/l to 4 ng/l
-
Support First Nations Communities
- Fully fund First Nations-controlled health services to provide culturally appropriate and comprehensive care to PFAS-impacted First Nations communities
