Time to Power Down the Pokies

Tell MPs to Support the Bill to Power Down the Pokies and Save Lives!

Time to Power Down the Pokies

Right now, hundreds of pubs and clubs are exploiting a loophole that lets them run poker machines through the night, even though the law says they must be switched off between 4am-10am.

There is overwhelming evidence that gambling after midnight and into the early hours is the most dangerous time for people experiencing gambling harm. Yet nearly 700- venues, including many of the state’s wealthiest and most profitable clubs, have been granted exemptions that allow them to operate through the shutdown period, some even 24 hours a day, every day.

Powering down the pokies after midnight at every venue, no exception, is one of the most simple and effective ways to reduce pokies harm.

The Greens have a Bill before parliament to remove all shutdown exemptions and require all pubs and clubs in NSW to power down the pokies between midnight and 10am. It’s simple, it’s effective, and it’s in line with calls from experts, organisations like Wesley Mission and the Minns Government’s Independent Panel on Gambling Reform.

With your help, we can make this reform happen!
