Ms CATE FAEHRMANN (10:06): I move:

(1)That this House notes that:

(a)Imam Muhsin Hendricks was killed in a premeditated attack on 15 February 2025 in Bethelsdorp, Gqeberha, South Africa;

(b)more than a year has passed since his death, yet no arrests have been made and no substantive progress has been communicated to his family, community or the Al-Ghurbaah Foundation, a non-profit organisation founded by Imam Hendricks;

(c)Imam Hendricks was an internationally respected spiritual leader who provided support to marginalised communities, including Sydney's queer Muslim community; and

(d)Imam Hendricks had reportedly received regular death threats prior to his killing, underscoring the targeted nature of the attack.

(2)That this House recognises the profound loss suffered by Imam Hendricks' family, community and all who benefited from his leadership and advocacy.

(3)That the President writes to Professor Firoz Cachalia, current acting Minister of Police in the South African Government, requesting that he:

(a)urgently prioritise the investigation into the murder of Imam Muhsin Hendricks;

(b)allocate appropriate senior investigative personnel and resources to the case;

(c)provide clear and timely updates to the family and relevant stakeholders; and

(d)ensure a transparent process that leads to accountability and justice.

Motion agreed to.

Pauline Hanson's One Nation - speech

As of today, Pauline Hanson's One Nation party has raised $4.8 million from its Fire the Liar campaign, which launched two weeks ago. It made headlines because half of that amount was made in the first 24 hours.

Abortion Law Reform Amendment (Sex Selection Prohibition) Bill 2025 - Second Read Debate

I support my Greens colleague Dr Amanda Cohn in opposing the Abortion Law Reform Amendment (Sex Selection Prohibition) Bill 2026. It is extremely disturbing that we are even entertaining the discussion of the topic of the bill in this House.

State Budget and Gaming Taxes - Private Members' Statements

Yesterday we heard the Government delight in spruiking its newfound generosity to those using our State's roads and railways. I would like to bring attention to another group celebrating this budget: the giant casino-like clubs dotted across the State, particularly in Western Sydney and regional New South Wales.

Building (Approvals and Practitioners) Bill 2026 - Second Read Speech

The Greens will be supporting the Building (Approvals and Practitioners) Bill 2026. We do so recognising that reform to the building approvals and certification system is necessary, and that the current system is not delivering the outcomes that the community expects, either in terms of housing supply or building quality.
