Longwall mining underneath Redbank Creek near Picton just south west of Sydney has caused massive cracks in the river bed. As a result, Redbank Creek is going dry for the first time in living memory.

Despite this, the NSW Government is considering more longwall mining underneath Sydney’s water catchments. In a climate emergency this is madness, with a recent report suggesting the subsidence from one mine alone is draining 3 million litres of water a day from the catchment.
