Meet Cate

I'm one of your Greens voices in the NSW Legislative Council. I'm passionate about protecting nature and tackling climate change, reforming our drug laws and fighting for better health and mental health services, and I care about livable communities with a thriving arts scene, a vibrant night-time culture, and an integrated active transport system.

I'm Cate Faehrmann, and I took my seat in the NSW Legislative Council in August 2018.

I come with a long history as an activist for women's rights and for our environment. I've campaigned on the front lines for LGBTQIA+ equality, I'm been an unwavering voice for the rights of the terminally ill to choose to die with dignity, and I've championed better health and mental health outcomes and livable communities.

I was previously a member of the NSW Parliament from 2010-2013, and most recently I worked as Chief of Staff to Australian Greens Parliamentary Leader, Senator Richard Di Natale.

Throughout my professional history I have been active in many environmental and social justice organisations, including as Chair of Sea Shepherd Australia, Executive Director of the Nature Conservation Council of NSW, founding director of GetUp! and on the board of the Environmental Defenders Office NSW.

I came to the Greens due to shared values of environmental sustainability, social and economic justice, and the desire to work for a society that puts people and planet first – not the vested interests of the big business buddies and dodgy developer donors of the old parties.

In my spare time you'll find me exploring our uniquely beautiful wilderness or enjoying some of the many music festivals our state has to offer.

We need strong voices to fight back against regressive, far-right representatives whose presence in our parliaments threatens to send us backwards. I hope you'll join me on this journey to fight for our values and for a future for us all. Thank you.
